A New Apron for a Toddler

I have some nylon bibs for my daughter that I bought a while ago. These days whether she thinks she is old enough(really?) or not, she doesn't like to wear it when she has a meal. So, every time she eats, she's made a big mess on her clothes even if it is after shower! Does anyone have the same problem as me?


It is a little annoying to change her clothes every after meal, so that I decided to make own apron that she probably won't take it off.

I picked echino for the apron and made it. The size seems well on her.

She can't take it off by herself anymore like regular bibs.
Tonight is the first time for her to use it!

Hang Your Kimono On a Beautiful Sunny Day

Do you live in a humid area like Japan? If you've ever lived in Japan or visited there except in winter, I am sure you've felt the high humidity. The level of the humidity goes worse in June(a rainy season usually starts in June until Jul), and August is the worst. The high temp and the high humidity go together and make the air really sweaty!!

Anyway, we take out all the kimono out of the closet and hang them inside the house for a day sometime before June. The reason is that kimono will likely to have extra moisture in summer and that can damage your kimono. It can be mold!!! Ouch!!!

So, hang them NOT under the sun and let them breath fresh air! These are some of my kimono and yukata.

You are lucky if you live in a dry area!! (Should I move to AZ or CA? maybe...)

A Purse with Obi Fabric

I made a purse with one of the obi fabrics I bought the other day. Since my scanning technique was poor or the machine wasn't good, the photo on the post didn't appear well. Now, you can see it better here!

The frame is 9cm wide and chose the black obi fabric and polka dot fabric I had. I love how it looks like!! The fabric was used to be a fukuroobi that is often worn when you dress up such as a wedding, or a party. This type of obis are usually gorgeous.

Anyway, I got a piece of the fabric and made a purse! What do you think?

Cherry Blossoms

It's been really nice these days. Cherry blossom trees are so beautiful so that everybody stops under the trees and takes a photo of the beautiful petals.

On Monday, I had lunch with my daughter at one of my favorite bakeries near the station. Up the hill, actually, there is a nice park but it was too steep to go up for me that day. The road is a little bumpy and it is too heavy to push the stroller!

So, I decided to have the sandwiches at the table outside the bakery instead of getting them and bringing up the hill. There were still some cherry blossom trees right in front of the bakery! You can see it.

This is the prettiest season of all! It's not too hot but not too cold. No humid at all.

After lunch we stopped by the park on the way home. She was walking happily!

Help For Japan---Does Anyone Sew?

Thank you everyone! There are already over 2,000 bags sent to the association! They say they still receive bags but you don't need to start new bags now.

Japan Handicraft Instructor's Association now wants handmade book bags for young children who have been evacuating since the quake. Does anyone sew?

Their goal is to get 1,000 donations from everyone due on Friday the 15th. The size and design are specified but simple. They pick only one design because it'll be unfair to those children when they receive if the designs vary.

The recommended material;
Quilting cotton fabric

The size is as follows;

Body
width: 40-45cm
height: 30cm

Handles
handles: 30-40cm

No pockets or depth

Name Tag
Attach or sew a piece of white fabric on the left top corner so that they can write their name on it.

height: 3cm
